Take 29 alpine styled rooms, add 4 unique bars, 3 elegant restaurants, one energetic night club and what do you get? A full blown entertainment complex masterfully pieced together inside a historical ski chalet smack dap in the centre of Zermatt. For short, this is the Unique Hotel Post.

If you’re not visiting Zermatt for the plethora of outdoor activities you may find very little need to even leave the grounds. The magnificent views of the iconic Matterhorn can be found on various terraces throughout, including some of the suites. The hotel itself first opened it’s doors in 1875 (that’s not a spelling mistake) and has gone through many refurbishments since then, most recently in 2007.

The rooms feature natural materials while embracing a cosy and relaxed mountain chic atmosphere. Large bathrooms with stone fixtures blend traditional elegance with modern appeal. While the bathtub is a haven of relaxation in itself, an elegant wellness spa is just a few floors down. I didn’t bring my camera in for obvious reasons, but the sauna and jacuzzi work wonders after a day of exploring.

No matter the craving, the answer can surely be found at one of the three house restaurants or main floor the pub. Italian dishes are prepared in The Factory and served up in a charming three storey Valaisan Chalet from 1772. It’s worth a walk around during the day to appreciate the layout and architecture before the seats are swarmed with hungry mouths to feed at supper time. Pöstli Stübli has you covered on all things Swiss, including traditional specialties and regional wines served up in a rustic mountain lodge styled setting. This is the place to get your Fondue on – chocolate included! P.O.S.T is a finer dining experience with a range of fresh seafood and creative dishes to swoon over along with a prix fix menu. Brown Cow is the spot to grab a pint and snack at any time of the day while joining in on some friendly conversation with the locals.

If you’re looking for a night cap I’d recommend a beautifully crafted Brandy Alexander served up in the Papa Caesar Lounge. A classic cigar room complimented by a top shelf selection of spirits and an impressive cocktail menu. If the weathers on your side, the balcony overlooks the main strip through town and contributes to the bustling energy as much as it absorbs.

You know nadaCliché is always looking for unique accommodations, so it should come as no surprise that Unique Hotel Post has it in it’s name. It is a staple in the centre of one of the worlds most desired ski destinations and truly instills a lasting impression which cements it’s well earned reputation. If you’re looking to visit Zermatt, escape in relaxation or simply to have a pint in the Swiss Alps, the Post has you covered.

Seems like a party pad, does it get really noise? Hard to sleep with all the bars and restaurants?

I slept like a baby haha. The rooms are above all the main entertainment areas though and it must be pretty insulated.
